Learn to build the Sun Hive out of natural materials
Since the very beginning, Spikenard has not only worked with traditional hive types, but has designed and worked with hives that support the vitality and health of the honeybee by utilizing natural materials with high insulation value and forms that approach roundness.
In this workshop we will teach how to build a sun hive, and let all participants join in the joy of weaving these beautiful rye baskets. Participants will also learn how to make the paste that covers the outside of the basket.
Hands-on hive-building in groups will be accompanied by lecture content related to hive scent, warmth, wax, form, and hive-body materials. Beginning beekeeping topics will not be covered in this workshop!
Participants have two options:
- Learn and Help Build; Cost $80–soak up the knowledge and hands-on experience!
- Learn and Take Home; Cost $650–includes one full sun hive set-up, including an upper and lower basket, the woodenware, and a landing flower.
This workshop is limited to 20 participants, with 5 participants who can purchase and take home a hive. Cost includes light lunch and snacks for both days.
