Wood Fired Sourdough Bread Baking

Come join us as we celebrate the health, joy, and tradition of artisan sourdough bread baking at the Honeybee Sanctuary.   This workshop will delve into the life and vitality of natural yeast, the light and health of freshly milled grains, and the all-encompassing warmth of our Quebec Earth Oven.  Each participant will have the opportunity to practice and witness the process, as practical learning will be paired with demonstration and lecture.

Each participant will get to choose to make one of the following loaves:

  • Gluten Free Sourdough: A gluten free bread that is based on a garbanzo bean and honey leaven, and incorporates millet flour, turmeric, and honey. This is a no-knead bread that also does not get shaped.
  • Alaskan Sourdough: A lovely loaf with big air pockets and a delicious sour flavor. The most standard and simple recipe, the easiest to knead and shape, and the lightest/fluffiest choice.
  • Hardy Whole Wheat: Wonderfully nutty, wholesome, and rich—packed with seeds mixed into the whole wheat base—this is a bread that you can build your life around.
  • The Golden Loaf: A very special recipe that incorporates golden ingredients on every level—golden flax, garbanzo bean flour, honey, and turmeric mixed into a white flour base.
