The Fall gathering will be centered around all the activities and preparations that the bees and the beekeeper are making for fall and winter, including health checks, hive consolidations and combinations, feeding and sharing honey stores, and insulating hives for the winter months.  Exploring the bees in their diverse ecosystem of mites, moths, beetles, bears, native pollinators, etc. and forming healthy and balanced relationships with all of these beings will be explored in-depth.  Land care and growing forage for the bees, including biodynamic preparations and soil fertility practices will accompany our fall work to support the health and vitality of the bees.  This gathering is also open to beekeepers of all skill levels, including beginners.  It will build on the introductory content given in the Spring gathering, but can also be taken alone.

Description

The age of information has made it possible for us to document and record the practical content and spiritual seeds of our beekeeping principles and practices at Spikenard Farm Honeybee Sanctuary.  The four-part series, Principles and Practices of Biodynamic Beekeeping, has been taught for the last several years online and now recordings of all of this material is available to our worldwide community.  In addition, our biodynamic beekeeping guide, A Lively Hive, has now been published in print and made available through Kindle, which documents four seasons of biodynamic beekeeping and can be used as a manual for getting started as a beekeeper.

With these resources readily available, we now have the opportunity to reground our educational programming at the Honeybee Sanctuary, where the life of biodynamic beekeeping and land care can be directly beheld and experienced through the practice of holding space for community and offering sacred hospitality to those who wish to gather with us and continue to develop our capacity to serve the health and vitality of the honeybees.
